Zlatoslava is only six years old. Despite her young age, the girl is desperately struggling with a deadly disease – embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma. Last year, the baby entered the ENT department with purulent otitis media and paresis of the facial nerve. She was sent to Kiev for a biopsy, according to the results of which the tumor was determined to be benign and the girl was prescribed treatment. But the reaction of the body to the treatment of a benign tumor alerted doctors, doubts arose about the correctness of the diagnosis. Therefore, in December, a second biopsy was done. The fears of the doctors were confirmed by a new and difficult diagnosis: a stage 4 malignant tumor with metastases in the lungs...
Eve is 13 years old. She must have been born absolutely healthy girl, but she got a trauma during her birth. Eve weighs only 26 kg. She cannot walk, cannot stand and cannot eat by herself. When we were choosing diapers for her to fit her waist measurement, her hips measurement, and weight, we clarified these indices: it was hard to believe that a teenager could have such weight. Eve is grown up only by her mother, her father does not participate in the family life. The girl has a sister, who is disabled as she has deafness of the 3-4 stage. Eve lives in Nosivka, Chernigiv region, and most often she visits Truskavets for her rehabilitation.
In 2019, the chairman of the Shostkinsk (Sumy region) public organization of invalids and widows of invalids of the Great Patriotic War, Yurii Romanovich Vasyliev, turned 97 years old. He is the oldest of the current chairmen of veteran organizations in Ukraine, and possibly around the world. Yurii Romanovich was born on December 1, 1922, in the city of Shostka. After graduating from a vocational school, he worked as a turner at factory No. 9. In 1941, the young man was evacuated to Novosibirsk, where he worked at a military factory. In June 1942, having achieved exemption from armor, Y. Vasiliev was enrolled in the Yurginsky school of junior commanders.
Misha Nikolayenko from Sumy region for his seven years took more antibiotics and other pills than another person in his life. And all because Misha was born with a rare disease that deprived him of any immunity. Any virus or infection "clings" to Misha instantly and is then treated long and hard. What he just did not hurt over the years. Medicaments, injections, droppers, and sometimes operations are constant companions of his childhood, inextricably linked with hospitals. So in October last year, the little boy was again in the children's ward, now with lymphadenitis. Doctors operated on the lymph node.
Misha Nikolayenko was born with a very rare disease - granulomatosis. With this disease, the child’s immunity is practically zero and there is practically no resistance to infections. The life of a child with this disease is accompanied by huge doses of antibiotics, antifungal, and antibacterial drugs. In August, Misha and his mother went to the Kyiv City Children's Center for Clinical Immunology, where he is seen by specialists. There he passed tests for myopathy and with his mother they are waiting for the result. In October, Mishutka fell ill again.
Daryna Ogilko will soon turn 4. Three of them, she is fighting non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Hormones changed the face of the child beyond recognition, but they cannot be canceled, because wounds immediately appear on the skin. These are manifestations of the chronic graft versus host reaction. The only treatment that can help is a course of photopheresis, which is not available in Ukraine. In early childhood, a girl found a tumor on her head. Soon, analysis showed that it was an aggressive B-cell lymphoma.
"The inhaler broke down so that it could not be repaired in the workshop", writes Kira's mom. I check: indeed, the girl received this device from us 3.5 years ago. The simple model met the needs of the baby, but during this time it runs out of resources, they work longer rarely. But the inhaler for a person living with cystic fibrosis is an item of basic necessity, the patient begins to suffocate without daily procedures. So it's a matter of urgency.
We convey words of gratitude from Eva's parents to everyone who helped the girl with the first operation. The eye has been successfully operated on, and the joys of parents have no boundaries! "The positive results were already at the first examination of a specialist," says the father of Eva. "We heard the long-awaited: vision has improved! And the daughter’s words that the eye began to see better give hope that she will have a long-awaited good vision".
The situation with pediatric cardiology is catastrophic. 51.67% of children (i.e., children during the first 28 days of life) who have a complex form of congenital heart disease die.
Even from simple forms of heart defects, 42.3% of children die. 30% of children are discharged from the hospital even without suspicion of a terrible diagnosis. Half of them die. Every year in Ukraine, more than 800 children die from cardiovascular diseases.
Our goal is to change that!
