Students say: "GoCamp is the best time in school!.. With exception of school discos" and it makes us happy. All jokes aside, GoCamp is the largest volunteering program in Eastern Europe, where volunteers from all over the world come to Ukrainian schools to share their culture and experience, and teach children foreign languages.
If you are studying in one of Ukrainian schools then you definitely know what summer practice is. Yes, this is the very first days of a long-awaited summer, which turned into a boring chores in school. But did you know that you don’t have to clean the yard, the library, wash windows in the lab or any other boring tasks. So, how can you make your summer in school interesting and useful?
GoCamp summer camps are held every year since 2016 throughout Ukraine. At first, we went in the direction of studying English with participation of foreign volunteers, but at early stages we understood: language can not be a goal; it is an instrument for acquiring new knowledge. So, in spring of 2017, a new format for camps was introduced - GoCamp AfterSchool, a program aimed at development of key skills of the 21st century: critical thinking, design work, integrated problem solving, teamwork, decision-making skills, and others. Of course, all activities are conducted in English / German / French, depending on the school choice.
Our achievements for 2016-2017:
- 69,600 children in GoCamp schools - 727 schools from 382 cities and villages participated in the project - 487 volunteers from 53 countries - 80% of the camps were held in small towns and villages
Only in September 2018 we will reach 7,000 students!
Expenses: Participation of each school in the GoCamp and GoCamp AfterSchool projects cost us about 28,000 hryvnias.
This includes: - trainings and webinars for teachers (accommodation, food) - trainings for volunteer (accommodation, meals) - methodical materials and developed agenda - transport for volunteers from the airport to the training site, and from the training site to the school, - hot-line support 24/7 - Visa Support - Local sim-cards, etc.
We are constantly striving to attract as many schools as possible and make the project operational throughout the year. At the UBB, we collect funds for 27 schools.
