PROJECTS, UKRAINE (8 of 8)
"Where I can take more energy to get through all these things? It’s just morning.." the mothers of children with cystic fibrosis think like this when waking their children up to morning procedures and inhalations. Not one single inhalation, not two, and not even three, but at least, five or more than ten. Every day. Without any break. All their lives. Only super powerful nebulizers can withstand such load and their cost is rather expensive... That’s why our equipment waiting-line is not decreasing.
Students say: "GoCamp is the best time in school!.. With exception of school discos" and it makes us happy. All jokes aside, GoCamp is the largest volunteering program in Eastern Europe, where volunteers from all over the world come to Ukrainian schools to share their culture and experience, and teach children foreign languages.
In developed countries, there is a system for auditory screenings of newborns and appropriate early intervention. In Ukraine, there is no system of early detection of hearing impairment. Diagnostic and therapeutic options in Ukraine are limited
As a result, hearing impairment is detected quite late, which often leads to irreparable consequences. Our task is to create an opportunity for early diagnosis of hearing impairment of newborn babies and timely clinical intervention.
Small hands, small legs, little kids. Babies born preterm are so tiny that they can sometimes fit into a hand of an adult. So far, doctors cannot determine all the causes of premature births, what exactly is the reason and how to deal with it. But there are methods of treatment and nursing that save lives of premature infants. After all, the life of a child, born with all underdeveloped organs, is a problem that is solved only due to modern methods of treatment and use of modern equipment, which sometimes replaces the functions of all vital organs.
What if any bacteria can give rise to an infectious disease of a child? There are some children that are especially vulnerable. Their mothers get used to not only clean the house but to keep it sterile. It is not a whim or excessive care, but the way to reduce the frequency of attacks for the children with cystic fibrosis, our fund is patronizing. We want our children to come to the clinic less, and kindly ask your help to procure sterilizing lamps that will make the place where children live safer.
The medicines can save and can… kill. The dose is calculated by weight, often on the verge: to kill the disease, but to harm the organism as less as possible. It is complicated, but it is even more complicated with small patients: when the weight is only 5-15 kg, the slightest inaccuracy can cost a life. Today mothers are sitting near their children with stop-watch in their hands counting drops in the dropper and getting crazy because of few hours of sleeping… Besides, too fast infusion of the medicine can damage veins.
They live in different parts of Ukraine – West, East, Center. They have different preferences, different professions, different tastes, different ages, but they are all united by one "front line" - a terrible diagnosis: breast cancer. All three have the aggressive form her2 / neu. The only chance to stop the progression of the disease is therapy with the innovative targeting drug Herceptin (Trastuzumab). Medications are extremely expensive, and the treatment is long and complex. 49 thousand hryvnias is what one bottle of medicine for one infusion costs. And they need 18 (a year of therapy – when infused every three weeks)!
